Somehow, I just cut and paste my reply to another similar question, but always answered your question, I think.

There are several ways to achieve what you want, but if you are ready to save a few bucks (with hundreds of others to allow a professional to do so), you can easily do what you want.

The easiest way is to obtain a complete software for video editing that with a break of "exit" box comes on. A breakout box is a device, the analog video such as VHS or Hi-8-capture and converts it into a digital signal that the computer can use.

Look for Pinnacle MovieBox. There are several versions that the necessary hardware needed to load the video cassettes are on a computer. Prices range from $ 79.99 to $ 149.99. If you have many videos, it will save a fortune with a professional production house.

Circuit City sells them, and when I checked, this was for sale.

You need a look of analog-digital converter at Best Buy or Circuit City. You can also try a gray area. not very good. or you can take your tapes to Ritz Camera. I think we need to convert them, but is expensive.

Buy a video capture card for PC and AV cable for the same entry. It comes with capture software. Get a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 capture card or the like. So, you buy the output of a good but cheap and burning software. You can buy Nero 6 is less than 20 dollars on eBay. Probably have a good deal on a capture card as well.

You can buy a converter that digitizes films. They usually have RCA inputs on the camcorder and the other end has a USB cable that connects your computer A. In addition, it is with the software necessary to digitize the video, but you must be a way to convert to see video on DVD. You can visit Yahoo! Search for DVD authoring, there are free programs, but the best thing you have to pay.
